April marks Stress awareness month and it is so incredible to see the wellness community come together and speak out about their own ways that help them diminish those crippling feelings of stress. Normalizing these emotions is so vital to really understand what your body is going through and what it is telling you.
Life moves at a fast pace and although breathing comes naturally to us all, at times it can feel like we are suffocating in the hustle and bustle of today’s world. We are here to tell you that you are not alone. Feelings of stress can be overwhelming and at times they can make you feel like it is to much to handle.
When these feelings arise, it is so important to listen to your mind and body and to take a step back. To sit down and breathe, deeply in your nose and deeply out through your nose over and over again to calm down the nervous system. Breath work really does feel like it has the ability to change the waves in our brain to signal our body and mind that it is okay, and you need to stay in stillness for a few moments.
Movement therapy. Moving your body and being active on a daily basis is one of the best things for us all mentally, physically, and spiritually. The more active of a lifestyle you live, the more serotonin your brain is producing which outweighs the negative feelings of stress. Serotonin improves your overall mood, your sleep cycle which reduces the stress responses our body naturally gives out in an overwhelming situation. Connecting meaningful movements to our breath is a moving meditation in itself that lets you move your body at the same time as calming your mind.
Being active and sweating goes hand in hand, and they are one of our favorite dynamic duos. When we move our body in ways that feel great for us physically, we sweat, and when we sweat, we release endorphins that naturally help our mind and body relax. Regular light weight/body weight exercise helps us feel our best. It creates space within our body where it needs it most and works up a sweat to cool our mind and body down to keep it on a positive level.
We invite you to join us for the rest of April to try and mindfully move your body for at least 15 minutes a day! See if it helps you melt away some of your stressors and brings peace to your mind, body, and nervous system.
